In November 2025, Laura and her sister, Jane, will embark on an extraordinary adventure, trekking across the vast Sahara Desert and climbing the towering Chegaga Dunes. This incredible feat is not just a test of endurance— it’s a heartfelt mission to raise funds for Cosmic, who care for the babies and children in intensive care at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Hammersmith.
Here’s Laura’s story, in her own words:
“In November 2019, our world was turned upside down. After several hospital stays for bronchiolitis, my daughter, Pearl, faced her most critical health crisis. At just 14 months old, she was placed on a ventilator in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary’s Hospital. It was an indescribably terrifying time for my husband, Lewis, and me. We didn’t know if Pearl would survive.
Thanks to the exceptional care from the doctors and nurses, our beautiful girl was brought back to us. But Cosmic’s support didn’t stop at Pearl’s bedside—they took care of us too. They provided accommodation so we could stay close, food when we couldn’t think of eating, parking permits to ease logistical worries, and even liaised with our employers to give us space to focus entirely on Pearl.
The way they cared for our entire family during such a traumatic time is something we will never forget. Pearl fought so hard to get better, and Cosmic made it possible for us to be right there with her every step of the way. This trek is our way of saying thank you—a tribute to Pearl and all the little fighters out there.

For Cosmic, Laura and Jane’s trek represents more than just fundraising; it’s about the resilience of families and the life-changing impact of dedicated care. The funds raised will help Cosmic continue providing essential support to families navigating the NICU and PICU, as well as funding vital medical equipment and staff training.
This inspiring story also kicks off Cosmic’s new Charity Challenge Events Package, offering opportunities for individuals and teams to take on exciting and meaningful challenges like this one. In partnership with [adventure trek specialists], Cosmic is inviting everyone to channel their spirit of adventure into making a difference for children and families in need.
Join us in cheering Laura and Jane on as they train cross the Sahara. Let their story inspire you to take on your own challenge for Cosmic—whether it’s a trek, a run, or something completely new. Together, we can achieve incredible things! ✨
