More Smiles Appeal

Treating over 200 more Children every year!

Every year we treat over 400 children with life threatening conditions, and support their families. However, sadly the demand for children’s intensive care beds is so high, that we have to turn away over 200 children every year because we don’t have an available bed. In addition the unit once state of the art is now cramped and simply doesn’t provide the environment we need to provide our world class care.

We are delighted therefore that we have been given the green light  to expand and modernise our intensive care unit into a state of the art facility to create a world class facility.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust are investing £8 million to expand and refurbish the unit but, to make it truly world class, we require an additional £2 million pounds to cover areas the NHS is unable to fund. Together COSMIC with Imperial College Healthcare Charity have launched this appeal to raise £2 million to help fund the expansion of the Children’s Intensive Care Unit at St Mary’s Hospital. Your support will make our vision a reality.

More beds means more lives saved.  Exceptional care needs exceptional space.

Your support will help reach this goal and expand the unit so we can:

  • Almost double the current number of beds, increasing from 8 to 15 beds.
  • Allow us to treat over 200 more critically ill children each year.
  • Increase space around each bed.

Update 2017

COSMIC are delighted to announce that we have raised over £1,500,000 for the More Smiles Appeal which aims to expand the children’s intensive care unit from 8 to 15 beds. Excitingly the first stage of work has now begun on the expansion – scaffolding is up and the builders and their hard hats have arrived!

Thank you for helping us achieve this incredible sum of money. When the unit opens we will be able to treat over 200 more children every year and provide a better space for children  and families.

Watch out for more information on how you can get involved with the appeal, and do  drop us an email or phone call if you would like to raise money for the appeal – or call 020 3312 6175.
