It’s been a long hot but wonderful summer at COSMIC so far…

London Marathon 2018

marathon-22

We kicked off this year’s summer events back in April at the notorious London Marathon – the toughest and most strenuous running event of the year. We had 12 wonderful COSMIC runners who endured months of training leading up to the event and completed the race in such impressive times. The team did an incredible job and not only managed the 26 painful miles, but also raised nearly a whopping £50k for COSMIC. We are incredibly grateful for all their hard work in training and fundraising and had a fantastic day cheering you all on.

During May, the Vitality London 10k took place and our fantastic runners ran through the scenic streets of central London. The weather conditions were ideal for our runners who finished the race in incredible times. We thoroughly enjoyed coming to support you all  and want to thank you for your fantastic efforts in both fundraising and training for the event.

June events included the 2018 Marylebone Fayre, our third year of being the chosen charity for this wonderful local community event. The weekend consisted of an outdoor Cinema screening of the classic film ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ followed by a day of fun, food and music on the Sunday. It was great to see so many of our lovely families and friends join us over the weekend, as well as having the help of our wonderful volunteers. All profits from the weekend were donated to COSMIC, so we cannot thank the organisers, The Howard de Walden Estate, enough for all their hard work and support to us. We had such a fantastic day and it was great to meet so many new faces and raise such significant funds for our ‘Home from Home’ appeal.

COSMIC Walk

Then the COSMIC Walk, the staple event across the annual COSMIC calendar. There were so many of our wonderful COSMIC families that turned out to join us on the hottest day of the year – 8th of July, to walk the 5k around Paddington and Maida Vale. Despite the heat, we all did it and had a fantastic time catching up with everyone and seeing all the regular and new faces at the walk. The children got to enjoy face-painting, the bouncy castle and summer outdoor games, as well as a fantastic raffle with lots of toys and vouchers up for grabs. All in all it was a very successful event so we want to thank everybody who joined us and helped fundraise.

Duck & Dragon Boat Race

37994175_1801871349894310_5860366816785727488_nCOSMIC Day, the weird but wonderful day! It’s not every day that you see 500 rubber ducks take to the canal and race to the finish line. Hundreds of people packed out Merchant Square to watch the event and cheer on their ducks on another scorcher of a day. Although the wind turned out to be a big obstacle for the ducks at the beginning, they Boatsfought through and one speedy duck won a free Eurostar trip for one lucky winner! The Duck Race was a great success, which was then followed by the Dragon Boat Regatta. We saw groups of Gladiator’s, Vikings, Nintendo characters and more; work in teams to be the fastest boat. 19 teams competed and although it was extremely tight, previous winners the Paddington Pirates (Adam & Eve) regained their crown with the Kingfisher team finishing in a close second. It was such a fun day and was great to see so many teams getting stuck in and battling hard to win the all important Dragon Boat winners title. Thank you to everybody who took part in both events, we raised a fantastic amount and hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

Prudential Ride London

Even the torrential rain did not dampen their spirits and all of our riders completed the race in such fantastic times. We managed to see nearly all of our riders at the 90 mile mark and were shocked at how, after cycling for so long; they looked as fresh as a daisy! It was an incredible effort from them all and we are thrilled to have raised significant funds from all your hard work.
